How to use this program

  1. Select the Heuristics and Environments you want to run on the lists to the left (you can select multiple entries by dragging the mouse over them).
Each selected Heuristic (on the top list) will be tested on every selected Environment on the bottom list.
You can also add your own environments to the list by setting up a file that describes your environment in a similar way as ours do. A description of the format of our environments is in the environments directory.
  2. Set values for the training set size, the number of tests and the knowledge level to be used. (These values also can be dragged with the mouse.)
  3. Start the simulation. You can interrupt or pause the calculation at any time.
  4. The "Display Update" value sets the time in seconds between redraws and can be changed during the run.
  5. An approximation for the remaining time is displayed on the bottom line.
  6. When the simulation is finished, a window will show up with a list of the results.

Reading the data plots:

There will be as many plots as environments are tested. The plots show two columns for each tested heuristic. The left one is the training result, the right (darker) one is the value for testing. The colours are those indicated on the heuristics list. An errorbar shows the standard deviation of the test results.
  • To enlarge a specific area press the left mouse button and drag to the right and down. A rectangle shows the area that will be enlarged. Cancel an already begun action by dragging only up or only left. You get back to the full view by dragging to the left and up.
  • Drag with the right button pressed to move the area.
  • Drag with the middle button pressed to zoom about the center. (If your mouse has less than three mousebuttons try using the 'Alt' or 'Ctrl' key.)
  • Just doing a click with the left button will open a box that shows the coordinates of the data points that are nearest to the mouse pointer. You can drag that box around. Clicking once again will disable this display.
